Statement Regarding Lingua Franca and Chorus

Last week, members of our community brought to our attention that Lingua Franca and its partner organization, Chorus, are selling sweaters featuring the phrase "Parenting is Political."

We want to be clear: Parenting is Political is not affiliated with Lingua Franca or Chorus in any way. We were never contacted about this collaboration and did not authorize the use of the Parenting is Political name or brand in connection with these products. Parenting is Political is a 501(c)(3) fiscally sponsored project of Generation Common Good. We do not currently, nor have we ever, been affiliated with Chorus or its 501(c)(4) activities.

Over years of creating original podcasts, educational resources, curricula, campaigns, research, events, and cultural organizing, we have built Parenting is Political into a distinctive public identity. For thousands of parents, caregivers, educators, and organizers, the name represents a trusted source of political education, community, and movement-building rooted in the belief that every family deserves safety, dignity, and belonging. It reflects years of collective work led by and for working-class families committed to building a more just future.

While we do not claim ownership over the idea that parenting is political, we do believe in protecting the integrity of the work our community has built under that name. When the Parenting is Political name is used on commercial merchandise without our knowledge or involvement, it creates confusion about whether those products are connected to or endorsed by our organization. It also risks obscuring the history, relationships, and community labor that have given this work its meaning.

We are actively working with our legal team to address this matter and protect the integrity of the Parenting is Political brand. In the meantime, we wanted our community to hear directly from us and know that we are aware of the situation.

Thank you to everyone who reached out to let us know. We remain committed to the work that has always defined Parenting is Political: building community, shifting culture, and organizing for a world where every family can live with safety, dignity, and belonging.
